The Use Of The Word "Father"

Matthew 23:9 And Call NO man your "father" upon the earth: for one is your "Father", which is in Heaven.

Matthew 23:10 Neither be ye call masters: for one is you Master, even Christ.

In the Catholic religion, people call their priests "father". Doesn't the above verses contradict what to call a "Priest"? What is your opinion on this matter?

Actually, I do not call them 'Father' either. They are not God.

How do I get around it? I call them priests, and I am not a Catholic. So I do not have to deal with issue everyday.

Am I saying I am right? IMHO, I believe I am. Am I willing to fight and die over this? No.

It is one of those sideline issues that seperate us by denomination, but that's all it does. This is not a hill I would choose to take my stand. :)

Oh, I know,(lol) it's just that I never understood the whole catholic version of calling their priests "fathers".
