Revelations 17 NIV) 3)Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. 4)The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. 5)This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Who held this golden cup? Israel/Jerusalem held the Golden Cup. These were the ones whom the Lord God chose over all the people. These Israelites were the Elect of God.
Ezekiel 16:9) Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. 10)I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. 11) I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. 12) And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. 13) Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.
As you can see, it was Jerusalem who was decked with gold and precious stones. It was Jerusalem where the Lord Jesus Christ was mocked, ridiculed, spit on, scourged and crucified at the insistence of the Jews. The Romans under Pontius Pilate's rule were not going to crucifiy him. They only did this at the demands of the Jews so that the Jewish people would not revolt. Before Apostle Paul/Saul's conversion to Christ, he also helped in the persecutions. The Lord's brother James was killed by the Scribes and Pharisees.
Rev 17:6)I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
If you read Matthew 23:33-39, it talks about all the righteous blood that was shed in their land and they would be responsible for it from Abel to the blood of Zechariah, whom they slew between the temple and the altar. They were killing those people who followed Christ. Also another note: God never sent prophets to Rome. He only sent them to Jerusalem.
Rev 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10) And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short time.
Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thous sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and (tongues) languages.
After careful study, the words in verse 15: peoples, multitudes, nations & languages are all plural. This tells me that the 7 mountains represents kingdoms, 7 heads represent kings of those kingdoms. These are the 7 kingdoms in which Jerusalem has played the Harlot with. She has played the Harlot with the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medo-Persians, Greeks, Romans and the Caananites. You will see alot of similarities in Ezekiel, Daniel, Jeremiah, etc...where Jerusalem played the harlot with all of these kingdoms.
To summarize everything that I've read and studied. It is Jerusalem that is known as "Babylon, the Harlot". Before Apostle Paul's conversion, he also helped in persecuting the followers of Christ. Yes Paul, Peter and Andrew were crucified in Rome, however, other disciples were killed in Persia, India and Israel. But the everyday people of the Israelites living in Jerusalem/Israel who followed Christ, they were persecuted by the Scribes and Pharisees of Jerusalem. It was the Lord God who sent his Word (Jesus) to Jerusalem/Israel whom they totally rejected and blasphemed.

Thoes evil Jews made Romans crucify thousands of Jews, specailly Jewish rabbis !! otherwise Romans would never kill Jesus or other Jews !! people, keep hating Jews for another two thousand years, becuase hatred will save you and the world! so says your Roman god, Jesus. How long will you justify evil and spread hatred against thoes who never hurt you? sorry to intrude again, but hatred can blind us to the truth so that even when we hear that the angel showed this person that the words on the cup the woman is holding says clearly: "the great Babylon", you deny it and say: the angel really meant "Israel,Jerusalem" !!? two thousand years of learning to hate Israel, has made its haters this possessed by evil that they have eyes but can't see? can you tell me what word the Angel would have used if he wanted to talk about Babylon?! I thought only Islamists were teaching hatred to their children. Now I am learning both kinds of hatred. Why do all hateful people hate Jews and Israel as the main subject of their hatred? May G-d open our eyes, and envelop us all in at least some of His light. by the way, don't take my words personally. I too have human emotions and get upset when facing unfounded hatred.
Gholi, you seem to be missing the point. This is not to justify hatred for the Jews. This event had to be done. This was to clarify the scripture and it's concept in the book of Revelations. I do not hate the Jews at all! I consider them my brothers and sisters. I would never do that! This is just info from back 2000 yrs ago. Too many people trying to say it's Rome because it sat on 7 literal hills whom people thought was the "Mystery City". I, for one, have great respect and love for the Jewish people. If it wasn't for them, we Christians wouldn't have had our Messiah.
gholi, read the book of Revelations. Since literal Babylon was destroyed by the Medo/Persians during the BCE era, maybe you can decipher the new "mystery city" in Revelations. Again, we do not hate Jews. Some believed that this was accomplished during 70CE. Since you are Jewish, maybe your insights can help in this Book of Revelations.
If an angel put a sign on your head saying: Sherry, the most beautiful soul on Earth! it means the angel is saying you are Sherry. revelation or not revelation! now: either the angel and the revelation are right, or the angel is lying or the seer who had this revelation couldn't read Aramaic ! If you believe the person was a true prophet, which I think you do, it means he is talking about Babylon. Also although the people in Babylon are different but the place is there with a new name (Iraq). also there are prophecies in the bible that says for example in the end of days many counties will rise against Israel and attack it. many of thoes names we don't have today but with a little look at the map you can find the new names. thoes prophets couldn't use today's names. Right? they also say in thoes attacks many Jews will die, so I better say goodbuy and go use my remaining time for doing something better than showing off my ego's great knowlegde! what remains is only deeds.
G-holi, I don't understand why you are getting so upset. This happened 2,000 years ago. People believe that the destruction of Temple at Jerusalem happened during 70CE. This is all historical. No need to get upset.
Did you ever stop to think that Babylon is not even an empire anymore? Look at the Assyrians, there is no Assyrian empire anymore and they were in Northern Iraq and Syria, Part of Jordan. There is no Roman empire either.
The problem is in this sentence: the Lord sent his word (J) to Jerusalem which they totally rejected, therefore christianity believes:since they rejected him, Jerusalem and the temple was destroyed, and you have the right to hate Jews forever because they rejected Jesus. The Jewish way of looking at it: since many Jews believed in Jesus and stoped following G-d commandments, as they were ordered, the temple was destroyed !!(while other nations' following him wouldn't have been considered a sin for Jews and wouldn't have resulted in the temple's destruction) this way of looking at it dosn't bring hatred against Romans or Christians! You know for the first 300 years Jews and the New Jews even used the same synagogues but then the Roman policitics.... This is about the same thing that happened with different sects of Moslems,when politics came into religion. This is what bothers me. the hatred that have been and is being implanted among massess using religion, which eventually prepares people to be used by new Hitlers.
